INFLATION

National Statistical office data:

• Consumer inflation: 

  • Provisional headline inflation slowed to  three-month low of 4.29% in April.

  • Reason: decreased food price and statistical base effect.

  • Cereal, vegetable and dairy products witnessed deflationary trends.

  • However, meat and fishery products witnessed an inflationary trend.

  • Services, like transport, remain in double digit inflationary trend.

• Industrial output data:

  • It increased by 22.4%, however  Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had posted an 18.7% contraction in March 2020.
