 INDIA-JAPAN COOPERATION TO FIGHT THE PANDEMIC

The Prime Minister of India and Japan reviewed the Quad initiative , pledged to complete bilateral developmental schemes over a telephonic conversation.

  • They highlighted the importance of close India-Japan cooperation to overcome the challenges put forward by the COVID-19 induced pandemic, for instance  by working together to create resilient, diversified and trustworthy supply chains; ensuring a reliable supply of critical materials and technologies; and developing new partnerships in manufacturing and skill development.

  • Further they acknowledged the importance of Japan-India bilateral cooperation and multilateral cooperation, including the Japan-Australia-India-U.S. quadrilateral cooperation, towards realising a free and open Indo-Pacific.

  • Possible areas of cooperation:

    • 5G, submarine cables, strengthening of industrial competitiveness, diversification of supply chains and development projects in the northeastern States of India.
