CRYSTAL BLADES FOR AERO ENGINES
Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed a Single Crystal high pressure turbine Blades technology.
It has been developed as a part of indigenous helicopter development programme for helicopter engine application.
Program has been undertaken by Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) which is a laboratory of the DRDO.
They are made of nickel based super alloy.
They have complex designs and have the capacity to bear high temperatures.
Only countries like U.S., the U.K, France and Russia have the capacity to develop this technology indigenously.
It will aid in development of compact and powerful helicopter engines, for operating at extreme temperatures.
